About this site:
I created this Scotland site to share my love for the Highlands with anyone interested in Scotland. I hope that I can give useful information to those who plan a holiday in Scotland and attract those who aren't certain yet whether they really want to go there. Nearly all informations are based on my own experience, therefore I include links to other sites for the places where I haven't been myself (not yet ...).

The story behind or how at all began ...
I always wanted to see the Scottish Highlands and
when I first went there with my wife in 1992, I thought it would
be the first and last time because we wanted a baby the year
after and I didn't think we would be able to make such a long
trip later on with a child.
But we both fell in love with the Highlands, and its people, to a degree we could not have imagined before. In fact, we went there for the beautiful landscapes, but we went back for the land and the people. I once saw a TV-spot for Ireland saying "You will come for the land, but you will come back for the people". It works the same way for the Scottish Highlands.
That first year, we spent three weeks in Poolewe, Wester Ross, in a lovely cottage outside of the village proper. We did a lot of walking and touring around. We made friends with our host. When we left, we were sure to come back, no matter how.
So I went first back in 1993, alone, to get a dog (a border colley). Our new friend sought it out for us. That year I toured Glen Affric, Skye, Harris and Lewis.
In 1995, we came back with our boy who was then 2 years old. We spent a week on Skye and went back to Poolewe for two more weeks. We had a special backpack for our son, but he walked on his own for 2-5 km (in several laps) every day. He too fell in love with Scotland. At least he still talks about it and asks when we'll go back.
In 1996, our daughter was born and so we didn't think to go back before 1998, when she would be 2 years. But we simply couldn't wait ... From planning a long weekend in France without the children, we slowly switched to an 8-day short trip to Scotland which brought us around Harris and Lewis (my wife had not seen them before), Poolewe (of course) and the north of Mull.
You may by now see that we're hooked to the Highlands and although we will go to other countries, the Highland West Coast between Fort Augustus and Cape Wrath, especially from Kyle of Lochalsh to Lochinver, will always be like our second home.
